Achieving and maintaining abstinence from compulsive and addictive behaviors can be a difficult challenge—it does not always come quickly or easily. Feelings of demoralization, being overwhelmed, and powerlessness are common for many addicts, especially in the beginning of recovery or when having trouble staying sober. Others, who have been able to maintain their abstinence, sometimes reach a place where they feel stuck in their Step work or in dealing with the consequences of addiction in their lives.

Please note: we do not accept people who are actively in their addictive pattern into the STAR program.

STAR provides an innovative and intensive 10-day residential experience to complement and deepen 12-Step and other ongoing treatment programs. It provides a safe, nurturing environment in which to explore the roots of addiction. Dysfunctional family dynamics, abandonment, neglect, or childhood abuse are often aspects of the addict’s personal history. For some, addiction may have been in part a coping mechanism to deal with the uncomfortable feelings these early experiences created. Others may have experienced traumatic or degrading moments during full-blown chapters of addiction. Sometimes the consequences of addiction resulted in life-altering or -threatening situations. Identifying, exploring, and releasing these memories and feelings often helps to heal the underlying source which fuels the addiction; this in turn helps to mitigate addictive impulses and urges.

STAR can help its participants make peace with their pasts and face the challenges of their current lives. STAR can help to more fully awaken and realize our gifts, talents, and potentials, which got marginalized while in the full swing of addiction. STAR provides an opportunity to deepen and strengthen authentic spirituality and relationship to Higher Power, in order to bring greater depth and breadth to your recovery journey. Freedom from addictive behavior and destructive patterns is possible.
