Anger is a powerful, and often frightening, feeling. It is a feeling that tells you something is wrong, and gives you the energy to do something about it. The problem with this feeling comes from what you have been taught about anger; how you may have seen anger acted out on you and people close to you; and how you may have seen it hurt people. The challenge is to learn how to express anger in a constructive way. Used positively, the energy of anger can change the course of relationships in both private and public settings.

There is truth in anger, truth that is often lost in the misguided burst of emotion. Everyone knows the experience—when the truth comes out with so much anger attached, it is somehow lost. That causes frustration and leads to more anger, catching everyone involved in a cycle of explosion, humiliation, shame, and more anger. There is a way out of all of this, a way to connect with the authentic feeling of anger and release it, safely. There’s a way to speak the truth that can be heard.

At STAR, people are given the opportunity to connect with anger and learn to express it safely, finding ways to communicate the truth embedded in the anger with a better chance of being heard. Underneath the anger, there is usually pain—pain from hurt, neglect, abuse, or abandonment. This is the fuel for the anger most people feel. There is a way to heal that pain, and that healing comes from within. The process isn’t a quick fix. It involves changing the way you live your life from the inside out—having a genuine sense of power that is great enough to be gentle and compassionate, first to yourself, and then to the people around you. That power is there, within your heart, beneath the pain and the anger. That’s what we help you find at STAR.
