Pocket Ranch Institute News

Dear Friends of Pocket Ranch,

The rains came pouring down, the creeks and rivers filled to the brink, some unfortunately over flowing. We lost a few trees on the ranch otherwise we were fortunate. Funny how emergencies pull people together and wash away petty issues that cause so much alienation and hostility. I’ve wondered why it is that cooperation and peace don’t seem to mobilize people as easily as crisis or anger. All we have to do is to watch the media and look around to see the attraction and even glamour of the negative. It is ultimately damaging to everyone.

I’m grateful to be working here at Pocket Ranch Institute where the focus is on healing and what contributes to general well-being. It isn’t always the easier path to pursue, but every mistake is another opportunity to learn and practice makes perfect I’m told!

Perhaps all the recent storms are a good metaphor. Behind those dark clouds, the sun is always shinning somewhere. Clouds are not as solid as they appear. We will have a glorious spring. When the California hills are blanketed with golden poppies and blue lupine, we will all be so blown away by the beauty that we will forget the storms. We would be wise to remember the growth they brought.

In my years of being a therapist, I’ve had the honor of being with many as they’re struggled through personal storms and I have witnessed many beautiful personal spring times. My appreciation to those of you who have allowed me the privilege.

Dr. LaVon McEveny has joined us as Clinical Director and will be working primarily at our 24-hour residential treatment facility, The Woodlands. Her years of clinical experience and transpersonal orientation bring the right combination of head and heart to Pocket Ranch. We are happy to welcome her here.

It seems I have a lot for which to be grateful. My gratitude to you who contributed to our fund raising and all of you who support the vision of our work and carry it into your lives. Wherever you are, I pray your springtime will be as beautiful as ours will be.

Love,

Barbara
